Zhi Shi

Herbs that regulate the Qi 

 

 

Channels: LI, SP, ST

Properties: Bitter, Spicy, Slightly Cold

Common: Immature Fruit of the Bitter Orange

Latin: Fructus Immaturus Citri Aurantii

Actions:

  • Strongly regulate Qi, reduce the accumulation
  • Transform phlegm

1.     Excessive Qi stagnation and food stagnation, direct Qi downward and unblock the bowels: abdominal pain, distention, constipation, or tenesmus; e.g. Da Cheng Qi Tang, with Da Huang, Hou Po

2.     Phlegm obstruction cause Qi stagnation: abdominal distention, oppressive sensation in chest and abdomen, poor appetite, diarrhea; e.g. Dao Tan Tang, with Dan Nan Sing, Zhi Ban Xia, Fu Ling

Dosage:

  • 3-9g

Precaution:

  • This herb has strongly spread Qi, so if patient with deficiency Qi should be prohibited
