Herbs that Tonify the Yang

Properties: Sweet, Slightly Spicy, Warm

Common: Eucommia Bark

Latin: Cortex Eucommiae Ulmoidis

Actions : 

1. To tonify liver and kidneys and strengthen bones and tendons
2. To calm the fetus to prevent miscarriage

 

 

 

Indications & Combinations:

1. Deficiency of liver and kidneys manifested as soreness and pain in the lower back and knees. Du Zhong is used with Bu Gu Zhi and Hu Tao Ren.

2. Impotence due to deficient kidneys. Du Zhong is used with Shan Zhu Yu, Tu Si Zi and Wu Wei Zi.

3. Threatened abortion or restlessness of fetus manifested as lower abdominal pain and uterine bleeding. Du Zhong is used with Xu Duan and Shan Yao.

 
Dosage:
  • 10-15 g
 
Cautions & Contraindications:
  • The fried herb is more effective than the raw herb. Du Zhong is contraindicated in cases with deficiency of yin with excessive fire.
