Actions:

  • Relieves pathogenic heat in the blood and stops bleeding: for extreme heat, very high fever, and reckless movement of hot blood. Stops convulsions, delirium, epistaxis, and vomiting blood.
  • Sedates convulsions: for tremors from heat entering the ying or blood levels, with loss of consciousness, tremor, or delirium.
  • Purges fire and reduces toxins: for erythema, purpura, erysipelas, and maculation.

Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated during pregnancy, or for heat from blood deficiency. Only use for excess conditions, caution in cases of qi deficiency causing rash or lack of heat. Do not use with Radix Aconiti Carmichaeli (chuan wu), Sclerotium Omphaliae Lapidescens (lei wan), or Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii (zhi cao wu).

Dosage:

  • 1-2g as powder. Can be ground into liquid. Very rarely used in decoctions, however, up to 6g can be taken in this form.
