Actions:
  • Clears heat and cools the blood: for heat in the blood level, especially yin deficient heat, summerheat with fever in children, and lingering fever that has injured the blood or yin. Especially effective in treating post partum fever.
  • Promotes urination: for bloody or hot urination especially pre or post partum.
  • Detoxifies: for abscesses, swollen throat, toxic sores, and snakebite. Can be taken internally or topically.

Contraindications:

  • Do not use without heat in the blood. Some traditional sources warn against its use with Da Huang, Da Zao, Huang Qi, Gan Jiang, and Shan Zhu Yu.

Dosage:

  • 6-15 Grams. Part used = root and rhizome.
