Actions:

• Clears heat, removes toxins, and benefits the throat: for acute laryngitis, tonsilitis, edema of the glottis, or any pain and swelling of the throat from fire toxins or phlegm fire.
• Strongly reduces phlegm and clears the lungs: treats cough with profuse sputum, wheezing, and phlegm obstruction. This herb''s action on phlegm is so strong that it can be combined with warming herbs to treat phlegm cold.

Contraindications:

• Do not use during pregnancy, or in cases of diarrhea from spleen deficiency.

Dosage:

• 1.5-9g. Part used = rhizome.
