Action and indication:

 

1. Removing the retained water by purgation

 

To treat the excess syndrome due to internal retention of water in the thorax or abdomen, marked by thoracic or hypochondric pain, cough and dyspenia, fullness and solidness of the epigastric region, fullness and distension with ascites,

 

2.  Relieving swelling and dispersing mass

 

To treat skin inflammation due to damp-heat, its powder is mixed with water for local smearing.

At present, it is used to treat intestinal obstruction with remarkable retention of fluid in the intestinal cavity

 

Administration and dosage
 

0.5-1.5g of the drug are used usually the drug is added into others as an ingredient in pills or powder. A proper amount of the crude is for local use. 

 

Remarks
 

Mildly poisonous; the drug is strong and should be used cautiously; should be avoided by pregnant women, the weak and elderly.
