Common: Chinese Yam, Dioscorea

Latin: Radix Dioscoreae Oppositae

Actions:
  • Tonify and strengthen the Spleen and Stomach
  • Tonify Lung Qi
  • Strengthen the Kidney and astringent for discharge
  • Nourish Yin

1.       Deficiency of Spleen and Stomach: poor appetite, dairrhea, spontaneous sweating; e.g. Shen Ling Bai Zhu San, with Dang Shen, Bai Zhu, Fu Ling

2.       Deficiency of Lung Qi: shorten breath, chronic cough or asthma, lower voice, spontaneous sweating; e.g. with Huang Qi, Ren Shen

3.       Deficiency of Kidney with abnormal discharge: frequent urination, spermatorrhar, profuse vaginal dischage; e.g. with Shan Zhu Yu, Wu Wei Zi, Tu Si Zi, Jin Ying Zi

4.       Deficiency of Yin: thirst, recently using diabetics; e.g. with Huang Qi, Tian Hua Fen

 

Dosage:
  • 9-30g. In exceptional case-60-250g
