Properties: Sweet, Bitter, Neutral 

Common: Shave Grass, Scouring Rush

Latin: Herba Equiseti Hiemalis

Actions:

  • Disperses wind and heat, especially when affecting the eyes: for redness, pain, swelling, cloudiness, blurred vision, pterygium, cataract, and conjunctivitis affecting the eyes. Also used to treat headache due to wind-heat.
  • Clears heat and stops bleeding: used as a complimentary herb for bleeding hemorrhoids and blood in the stool.

Contraindications:

  • Caution during pregnancy, qi and blood Deficiency, depletion of fluids, and urinary frequency.

Dosage:

  • 3-9g. Can be used externally in powdered form. Part used = aerial tips of scouring rush.
